Daniel Ryan from Thurles
The following information was provided by Dale Ryan, whose ancestors lived in Allamakee County. He is a descendent of Daniel Ryan and Margaret Ryan, and likely a very distant relative of ours. Daniel Ryan's family came to Allamakee County before the Civil War, and when the war erupted, Daniel enlisted in the U.S. Regular Army. Daniel was considered a war hero by many in the Waukon area, in addition to spending many months in a prisoner of war camp (Andersonville).
