McPhillips Family Descendents
In this section you will see Michael and Mary McPhillips’ family descendents, including the Smith family. Our McPhillips kin provided this information to us; however, it was somewhat incomplete for the Smith side. We have tried to shore this deficiency by plugging up the incomplete holes, but first let’s look at some old obituaries. Look at the obituaries for “Irish” John Smith and Susan McPhillips Smith. Each obituary mentioned numerous out of town visitors that we assumed were relatives; however, we could never determine exactly who they were or how they were related to our family. The following information should answer some of these mysteries.
Irish John Smith Obituary (August 31, 1928)
There were so many out of town people attending the services that it is impossible to mention names. Those from out of state were Frank McCarville, Arthur McClusky and John G. Sullivan of Lone Rock, Wisconsin, Genevieve McPhillips and Miss Rose Love of Spring Green, James Smith, Sam Farrell, P.J. Smith, Mrs. Mary Benton and Mrs. Will Coyle of Madison, all of Wisconsin. Mrs. Benton was Mrs. Smith’s bridesmaid when she was married in 1874.
Susan M. McPhillips Smith Obituary (03-21-1939)
Many neighbors and friends of the family gathered today to pay their last respects to Mrs. Smith and Father T.J. O’Gorman, her spiritual counselor for so many years, paid high tribute to her memory. Out of town relatives and friends present were Mrs. Henry Ellifson, Spring Green, Wisc.; Genevieve McPhillips, Hill Point, Wisc.; Mrs. George McPhillips, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Will Coyle, Madison, Wisc.; all nieces of Mrs. Smith; also Dr. M. J. May and Fred Brown, Rapid City; Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Lally, Montrose, S.D.; Mrs. James Keiper, Mitchell, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Delire, Platte, S.D.

(Patricia) Ryan, North St. Paul, Robert McPhillips, Mendota Heights, and George
W. McPhillips Jr., Inver Grove Heights. Brother of Owen McPhillips, White Bear,
Mrs. Firmin (Florence) Alexander, St. Paul and Mrs. William (Mary) Buckley,
Fergus Falls. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren. Visitation at the Devlin
funeral Home, So. Wabasha at Humboldt, after 2 Sunday afternoon. Funeral from
the mortuary Monday morning at 8:30. Requiem Mass at St. Michael on The Hill,
Haskell and Sperl Sts., at 9 A. M. Interment National Cemetery. Member of Edwin
Perlt Post No. 512. American Legion. Parish vigil Sunday evening 8 o'clock.
