Things of Interest
We constantly look for things that might be of interest to our family. On this page are a few photographs that have some historical relevance to our family. On your right is a portrait painted in 1790 of Ann Jocylyn Waller, the lady of Waller Castle (located a few miles east of Newport, Tipperary). Waller Castle initially was called Cully Castle, and originally housed the Ryan Lordship of Owney & Arra until Cromwell confiscated their lands in the late 17th century. See Waller Castle to view what's left of the old castle. Our families would have been acquainted with the Wallers as their farms were within a few miles of this "refurbished" castle.
Cully, in the old Gaelic dialect, sounds like "School Hill." <sCool he> Even today the local population still refers to this area as "Cully".
