Tim has continued to research our Scottish connection, and the following
are his recent notes. The documents contained on this page
are census, birth and death records of the Scottish contingent.
Below are historical notes that he has found since reading Irish John
Smith's journal. This journal is among the most important
documents we have entered onto this web site...as Tim says "it names
names". From a genealogical point of view, it is the Rosetta Stone
of our family tree, because it is the only historical evidence that
connects our family with specific Greenan, Smyth and McPhillips
families...it really is an important piece of our heritage.

Notes of Interest
- One of the Greenan bunch worked as a pipefitter during the
construction of
the Titanic

You might remember there was a Peter
Greenan in Dundalk that Irish John visited. One of his sons,
Thomas, died in WWI at Windmill Hill around Pozieres. Thomas
had moved to Australia and joined an Australian military
outfit. I think he died in France .

There was an Edward Greenan who
also died in Gallipoli during WWI. He was born in Milltown.
He was not Peter Greenan's son, but I think was the son of a Thomas
Greenan.

Thomas and Peter were brothers.
Edward registered with the military in Edinburgh.

I did find another WWI death...John
Greenan. But unsure of the linkage with our family. It
states that he was born in Carackol, Monaghan, which appears to be
in Ematris Parish. He was not Peter Greenan's son, but may
have been a son of Thomas Greenan. Thomas and Peter were
brothers.
