![]() The Awards - Click to enlarge There were many positive remarks made about each entry, but two stood out over the others: Wendy & Tom's house and Steve and Stana's house. The feedback from the FACEBOOK users nearly evenly liked both houses...but when I surveyed people individually...Wendy & Tom's came out ahead. Therefore MOST POPULAR goes to Wendy & Tom's "wrap-around" house. The MOST LIKE MOM'S category was nearly evenly split, as well. But this year's award, by a "slim majority" goes to Stana & Steve's entry.
step one
...Just after putting the walls and roof together. Elizabeth and I wanted to create a house that was associated with the east coast...so a colonial seemed perfect. The "full effect" is difficult to view, especially as te light colored "beans" don't show... |
![]() Eureka Stocking Mix - click to enlarge Thank you V.J. for providing a "postal stocking" that replicated the candies, nuts...and Cracker Jacks XMAS stockings we all recall. THE WEB WALLPAPER IS ALSO THIS PICTURE....
step one As several people wrote, they immediately took pictures...just in the event the frosting didn't hold the walls together. This is Laurel & Tim's entry.
final product This was a very creative entry. Because they have a new dog in the family, they incorporated this family event in their entry. Aside from the candies that make up the house's exterior, there were many dog treats included. It was a theme well executed. |
![]() step one - click to enlarge After a "false start" and accusations of "sabotage", Stana & Steve built a sugar cube house with NECCO wafer roof. What made this entry very interesting was the roof. The lighted candies at the top was a very clever idea. fully lit - click to enlarge Pretty cool...if I say so myself. Probably a fun house to build. It won "Most like Mom's" because it recalled how the windows, doors & roof appeared to the Smith Children 40-50 yrs ago. CONGRATULATIONS. top prize winner - click to enlarge "MOST POPULAR" entry. One thing I learned from this year's contest...I'll have to make the rules tighter. The size and scope of the entry was beyond my expectation...so next year...more structured rules around size, etc. But in any event, this was a great job by Wendy and Tom. |

![]() Merida and John Deverman's entry. Click to Enlarge |
Merida and John's entry is meticulous in detail. The roof line and shingle lines are well balanced. I didn't recall a mailbox in front of the house...but that has been almost 35 years since I've seen the house "live." I do love the mail in the mailbox. Dimensionally it is the most "like mom's", but created a new approach for the doors & windows - this was a tough category as both the Deverman & Chamberlain Smith's entries were very good...
