Jack Ryan, 1944 photo

I think the story goes something like this.  Jack Ryan and Irene Hanten were engaged to be married for almost 10 years, and during this time, Jack had Sunday dinner every week with the Hantens.  At some point, Irene told Jack, "either we get married or you can't come over for Sunday dinner anymore."  This may be a story, as both have a wonderful sense of humor.

(Right) Jack Ryan at the Linotype machine.  The "cousins" all remember spending hours at the Brule County news as we were fascinated with the sounds and the machinery.

OK...so I did like the international printing week pictures.    Especially the photo of Chloe.  Both she and the other black lab, Watch, lived at grandpa and grandma's house in Kimball.  Chloe was the gentle one...and Watch was...a little more rough.  We were never supposed to get near Watch, as they were never sure what he'd do.  There were stories that Watch picked fights with other dogs, and would leave the contender a little more beat up after their fights.
