Christmas
Leprechaun
A short story by Tim Smith
When I was in the Second Grade, I wrote a letter to Santa Claus. In that letter I requested that he bring me a Leprechaun for my Christmas present. My "logical" thinking made me believe that a Leprechaun was the best choice for my present. After all, i could request toys all year long and not have to wait until Christmas.
I went around to all my brothers and sisters and told them that I would share my Leprechaun with them. Wasn't it possible for Santa to hear and see us all the time, I thought. If that was true then I believed that Santa would look upon my acts of generosity and provide me with my little green elf.
That year I saw Santa at the Coast to Coast store in Eureka. When asked what I wanted for Christmas, I proudly told Santa, "I want a Leprechaun."
I turned around and looked at dad, and he had this funny look on his face.
That night dad told me that he had spoken to Santa about my request. According to dad, "Santa could not get a Leprechaun for me as he was not flying to Ireland that Year."
I cried...and Christmas was never the same after that.
