Kool Deadwood Nights is bringing a blast from the past to the Black Hills.

"We've got about a thousand classic cars that come through town, a sock hop that goes on, a parade.  It's fun for everyone," Katie Malin with Deadwood Chamber of Commerce said.

"They have some really great entertainment while we're here.  The rod-runs through the Hills are a cool area to drive around in.  You see different cars every year, the car shows are very good.  We just enjoy it out here," Moville, IA resident Jim Cross said.

With hundreds of classic cars bringing in thousands of people, this is Deadwood's premier event.  And this year's Kool Deadwood Nights is expected to be the biggest one on the books.

Around 300 cars have been pre-registered this year, which is more than any other in the event's 18 year history.

"We have people pre-registered from all over the Midwest, but we get calls at the chamber from all over the United States," Malin said.

"I've talked with people from Texas and Wisconsin, Missouri and a couple other states I can't think of right now," Cross said.

Unlike the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which was also well-attended, Kool Deadwood Nights is geared toward the whole family.

"That's a goal for every one of our events, but since it falls right after the rally it definitely looks bright and shiny for the families," Malin said.

"We like to see a lot of kids here, young people.  I hope to see more of the young people take over someday and be interested in some of these old cars," Fergus Falls, MN resident Daniel Larson said.
