Official Death Records for Hugh and Bridget McCarville

The acquisition of these records helps support the link between the Lyons family of greater New York City and the McCarvilles and Smiths of the Midwest. We have written about this family before as they appear prominently in the Irish John smith Journal:

August 13 1908. Landed in New York at 8 am.  It was very warm went to Cousins Lyons.  Morning Hot and Fogy

Irish John also noted that he went to mass with Mrs. McNulty and went to Coney Island with James Lyons. Both of these were children of his cousin Catherine McCarville Lyons. Below are death records for both Hugh and Bridget. From these records we learned that Bridget's father was Bernard Greenan, and we can assume that Bernard was also Irish John's grandfather. We feel positive about this for a couple of reasons. First of all, when Irish John visited relatives in 1908, he was generally visiting first cousins, uncles and aunts. If they were not close cousins, he noted them as "second cousins." In the case of the Lyons, he only referred to them as "cousins." Secondly, we know that the McCarvilles in Wisconsin were his first cousins, and a news article showed Catherine and her daughter visiting her brother near Spring Green.
