What a surprise greeted Lee and I
this Monday morning on the front page of the
Rockford Register Star.
All I did was attend the event, a candidate debate for Governor
and US Senator for $25.00 and pay close attention. I am not
scowling, just concentrating. I did answer questions, like where is
your Dad and Brother, and I did hear more than once, "Your Mom was
really special". Regarding the issues, if given a chance I would
gladly have given them my two cents worth.
Oh, we did let Chuck Sweeny an opinion column writer and editor,
and the debate moderator sit at our table to eat dinner during the
break between the Governor candidates and the Senate candidates.
As a nephew of publisher Jack Ryan, it only seemed fair to let him
have a seat. He had gotten booed asking one question and with many
tables full, he wasn't getting any invitations to sit down. The
relief on his and his wife's face was noticeable, and Lee Ann
especially enjoyed talking to them. Maybe being nice had its
reward. Oh yes, a wise man from
Kenya told his
son, "You win more friends with kindness than you do with the barrel
of a gun." Thanks for the inspiration from your Father, Dr. Ali.
I don't know what they are talking about on
the web. I'm not running for
Governor of Illinois. Along with the jacked up nasty edit of
a TV interview last Wednesday, Lee and I are convinced the people in
the press/media, write fiction, and they think accuracy and facts
are to be avoided at all costs. The errant caption is no big deal,
but Jack would kick their butt.
