Dinner out in Rapid City, SD in late August 2011.  It was at Del Monicos in the downtown district - very nice place.  L-R.  Elizabeth Smith, Mike Kenton, Wendy Svendsen, Tom Svendsen, Julie Smith.

One of our childhood dreams was to have dad drive us to Lemmon, SD to see the petrified wood gardens.  See rest of photos (below), but what fun!

Dr. George MacIntosh memorial in Eureka, SD.  He delivered thousands of babies during his illustrious career - including most of the Smith siblings.

Sacajawea's monument.  Records in Ft. Henry say that "Charbaneu's woman died" in 1804.  Her burial is somewhere near Kennel, SD, which is a few miles north of this monument.

Sitting Bull's Grave west of Mobridge, SD. He was killed in Ft. Yates, a few miles north of Mobridge.

Offerings left behind for Sitting Bull...coins...cigarettes,..and special offerings.  We saw something like this in New Orleans at the voodoo witch doctor's grave.

Many years ago, the parish priest convinced the good people of Hoven, SD to build a church that would rival many U.S. cathedrals.  The parishioners supported their priest and built this elaborate structure that stands out for miles and miles.

In Sturgis, SD.  We had lunch at this biker bar.

Full Throttle Saloon a few miles east of Ft. Meade and Sturgis, SD.  The bartender told us that they have 50 bartenders to serve 10,000 patrons during the Motorcycle Rally.

Tim and Laurel in Sturgis at the Full Throttle.  We had a beverage at 11:00 a.m. Mountain time.  This is a cool place.  There is a TV show about this place - they expect 2nd season to air sometime this fall.
