The following information was provided by Don and Millie Ryan of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  Don Ryan traces his roots to James and Bridget Ryan of Cushing, Oklahoma.  As we began to assemble information from these old obituaries, the Ryans believed that some of the obituaries had incorrect information; so Millie started reviewing the old family bible to get the facts straight.  Below is the information she provided to us, and if you'd like to communicate with our Ryan "cousins", their email address is:  donandmillie@gmail.com.   Please drop them a line, if you have a few moments.

According to this old family bible that we have James Jr. was born  Dec. 21, 1845 in County Tiperary, Ireland  Josephine Bridget Hill was born Nov. 11, 1850. doesn't say where.

They were married May 7, 1870 at Paint Rock, Allamakee Co. Iowa

James Jr. died Oct. 7, 1914 and as you know is buried at St. Leo's cemetery in Cushing

Bridget died April 13, 1930 in Cushing and is buried by her husband.

Don and I are thinking that his parents probably came to Cushing after the death of James Jr, so Don's father could help Bridget  in some way.

Millie provided some additional thoughts that we can certainly relate with.  When Tim and I started researching our family tree, we realized that there were gaps (as with our oral history, some pieces were misunderstood or changed over time).  The other similarity is that there were many questions that we all wished were asked when our parents or grandparents were still alive.

"If it weren't for the fact Bridget and your great grandmother were sisters, I'd think we were from a different line of Ryans.  I keep saying we and it is Don's blood line.  He keeps saying as a child, he doesn't think any of the other Ryans around were related except for the brothers to his Dad. "

Don's brother Jim's date of birth; it is May 5, 1912 rather than May 7th.

We think Dad Ryan's obituary was wrong, saying he had lived in Cushing since 1906.  John and Geraldine married in St. Rose de Lac, Manitoba on  July 26, 1911.  Their first child, Jim was born May 7, 1912 and they left Canada on his first  birthday for Sweetgrass, Montana.  This information I just rec'd from Jim's son Mike. We still don't know the exact date that John and Geraldine joined the family in Cushing, but I'm still working on that.

The family bible lists the following births, and some deaths.

Mary Bridget Ryan  Oct. 21, 1872  Union Prairie, Iowa

Infant son  Jan. 03, 1875 Union Prairie, Iowa  died Feb 5, 1875

Joseph Francis Ryan, March 7, 1887,  Kimball, South Dakota

If I figured right, Bridget had nine births and eight survived.

Mary went by the nickname of "Mamie".  Married a Sheridan and died Jan. 20, 1947 in British Columbia

Margaret Ann was nicknamed "Peg"  married a man last name  Squibb.  She lived in Canada but was visiting in Cushing when she died. and is buried in St. Leo's.

Winifred went by "Winnie"   Married William T. Powers Oct. 20, 1920. They moved to Michigan and Winnie was hit by a military truck while crossing the street in Flint, Michigan,  on Nov. 9, 1942 .

Patti Brandle, a volunteer with the Cushing, Oklahoma, Genealogical Society provided us this information recently.   She wrote, "We have a Cushing Gen. Newsletter that several of our members work on.  Info is picked up from old newspapers, books, etc.  I found this newspaper item in our last one...thought I might send this along in case you don't have a date.
