SITE HELP |
This section can be accessed in the future
by "clicking" on SITE
HELP
from the home page. It
appears on the top left hand section entitled "Scrapbooks and Reunions".
As recommendations and requests come into us, we will provide updates to
this section periodically. How do I navigate in the site? Two ways: There is a task bar at the top of each page (look above under the red banner line). Clicking on any of these will take you directly to specific content, e.g. Ryan Data. An expanded task bar appears at the bottom of the "Home Page" and a few more tasks can be selected. Another way to navigate is using the "SIDE MENU". Initially this navigation tool did not require loading in your login & password when you want to access a specific area in this site. However, it is very useful if you want to go directly to CNN, News or Yahoo search engine. |

There are two main Libraries on this site,
which are found under the section "SMITH
GENEALOGY":
Ryan Library
and
Smith Library. While
the libraries have "books" related to each surname, there are some
"books" that talk about both families. The Ryans and Smiths have
been close families for many years, as reflected by marriages and
long-term friendships. Enter the Library of choice, and start "browsing" the covers of each book. Once you see a "book" of interest, click on its cover. Many of these books are older articles which have been archived for future viewing. Also, because we have new people entering the site, they will always be available for them. You can also access the libraries via the "SIDE MENU", which floats on the left hand side of the page. |
||||||||||
| Everything is organized alphabetically, by
subject. As items are archived, they are placed into two sections:
ODDS & ENDS
and SITE MAP.
ODDS & ENDS is a temporary holding spot for recently retired articles
and photographs. The photographs, if not regarded as historical,
will eventually appear on SITE MAP, but will never make its way into the
LIBRARY. The Library will tend to hold information of historical
importance to our families. The SITE MAP is a composite of all
things that have appeared on this site. As there is so much information on the site, don't be afraid to ask where to find the information. You can either do this by sending us an email by clicking on Contact Us on the Activity "Bar" you see on all pages. You can also send your photos or stories using this email function provided on this site. A second way is to write us directly using your personal email service at ( twsmith@irishjohnsmith.com or tfsmith@irishjohnsmith.com ). Another way is to write a message on our guest book, which keeps a running log of your comments. The guest book can be found on the right hand side of the HOME PAGE, near the bottom of the page. |
|||||||||||
| There is an external web site that
contains our family lines, and can be found at Genealogy.com.
There are over 1100 names registered, however, living relatives are only
noted as "living". Only deceased relatives will be fully
listed with their dates for birth, marriage and death. If you
haven't been to this site yet, please visit. Associated with our
"ancient" relatives, we also have information about their homelands,
immigration notes, and other important notations regarding their lives.
This site puts "it all together", and shows how all the families we talk
about in this site "fit." You can click on "Our Second Web Site" (on your left) to see what this web looks like today. |

PHOTOGRAPH ARCHIVES |
Ever wonder where the family photographs
are stored? They are found in several major areas on the web: (1)
there are many photographs stored in the "Main Library", as noted above,
(2) the complete collection of the William Smith and Mary Cecile Smith
photographs are stored in the Smith Family Scrapbooks, (3) and photo
gallery, which is mostly photographs of the Eureka Smith family, and (4)
Odds & Ends. The Photo Gallery also contains historical documents
and photographs, as well. The Photo Gallery has also recently been upgraded so that the photos are "re-sized" for easier viewing. As always, you can "click" on any photo to enlarge. Photo Gallery - (Smith Family Photos is included in this section) If you need original sized documents, please let us know. In many cases, we have downsized the documents to fit our web site constructs, but can email original sized photographs, documents, etc. by request. |

Finally, the HOME PAGE... There are two sections to the Home Page: newer articles are posted on the right hand side of the sheet, and genealogical important documents are posted on the left hand side. As newer articles are removed, they will either find their way into ODDS & ENDS or the Main Library. This is a photograph of Irish John Smith showing a wound that he received during the Civil War. Many of us recall this photo, along with similar ones, on display in the old Smith home in Brule County. |

The family records are cataloged in this site, and can be accessed by depressing one of the "buttons" that appear on the home page. The information is combined in the following manner: vital records (government records), church records (baptisms and marriages), obituaries (newspaper articles and death notices), genealogy (family lines), census data (Ireland, Channel Islands, Scotland, United States), oral history (family stories), and family stuff (which is a combination of miscellaneous things including important photo references. | ||||||||||
|
|
We are recording two families on this
website - the Smiths and the Ryans. Two of Irish John Smith's
children, Michael and William, married into the Ryan family, so most
individuals referenced in this site will be of interest to both of these
families. Regardless of ancestry, both of these families were well
known in the Kimball area. To view the family tree, click on any of the shields depicted here (also found on home page). Each of these shields represent the official family crests. |
